Handel’s Tamerlano
This concert has already taken place
Critically acclaimed for its daring and bold productions of Handel's dramatic works, the Handel Opera Studio returns to the grandeur of Shoreditch Town Hall with a brand-new staging of Tamerlano for the London Handel Festival.

Featuring some of the composer's most ravishing and astonishing music, Tamerlano is one of Handel's most powerful psychological dramas, exploring extremes of human nature which remain urgently relevant today. This gripping opera recounts the story of the defeated Ottoman sultan Bajazet and his daughter Asteria, ensnared in a web of love, loyalty, and power struggles with the ruthless conqueror Tamerlano.

Award-winning director Orpha Phelan makes her Baroque opera directorial debut, leading an exceptional cast. Musical Director and world-leading Handelian Laurence Cummings makes his hotly anticipated return to the London Handel Festival, joined in the pit by his ensemble, the Academy of Ancient Music.
