StreamingSundays broadcast | Chen Reiss sings Beethoven
Join us for the third chapter of our StreamingSundays full-concert streams, with soprano Chen Reiss joining AAM for a programme of Beethoven and Witt with conductor Christoph Altstaedt from Nuremberg. Broadcast courtesy of BR Klassik, this concert prefaced the launch of Chen’s latest release, ‘Immortal Beloved’ on Onyx Classics with Richard Egarr and the Academy of Ancient Music on 20 March 2020.
A pair of fourth symphonies headlined the programme, and although Beethoven’s might have grabbed centre-stage, Friedrich Witt’s (1770 – 1836) Symphony No. 4 charmed with its pleasing melodies and accomplished orchestral writing. A contemporary of Beethoven, Witt was a highly regarded composer in his time, although his works and those of his peers have since become considerably overshadowed by those of the Bonn-born master.
Enjoy both in this fantastic programme, broadcast in HD stereo on the Academy of Ancient Music’s YouTube channel.
