Celebrate Christmas with the AAM and the Choir of the AAM in this joyful programme of festive works by Vivaldi, which showcase his jubilant musical personality.

Vivaldi’s Gloria — the most well-loved of his sacred compositions — was written during his years at the Ospedalle della Pieta. The work remained remarkably seldom-heard until its revival by Alfredo Casella in his 1939 ‘Vivaldi Week’. The ‘introductions’ were conceived as a sort of warm-up for large-scale liturgical text settings, such as the Dixit Dominus or the Gloria, and are unique to Vivaldi.

Soprano soloist and regular AAM collaborator Elizabeth Watts brings her “opalescent tone” (Guardian, 2012) to this performance.
